Poha / Avalakki Recipe | Healthy Indian Breakfast | Homemade Kanda Poha

Poha (Avalakki) is a breakfast loved across India. Soft, light and full of flavour — it makes the perfect start to the day. This homestyle recipe is quick, nutritious and made with simple ingredients from your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups poha (thick or medium)

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp peanuts (optional)

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 green chillies

  • Few curry leaves

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Lemon juice

  • Fresh coriander

Method

  1. Rinse poha gently and keep aside to soften.

  2. Heat oil and fry peanuts till crisp. Remove & keep aside.

  3. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and chillies.

  4. Add onions and sauté till soft.

  5. Add turmeric and salt.

  6. Mix in the softened poha gently.

  7. Cook on low flame for 2–3 minutes.

  8. Add peanuts, coriander and lemon juice.
