Upma (Uppit) is one of those comfort breakfasts that reminds us of home. Light, warm and wholesome — it’s perfect for busy mornings, tiffin, or even a simple evening meal. With a few pantry staples, you can make soft and fluffy rava upma in minutes.
Ingredients

1 cup rava / sooji (semolina)

2 tbsp oil or ghee

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp urad dal

1 tsp chana dal
-
1–2 green chillies, chopped

1 small onion, finely chopped
-
Few curry leaves
-
2.5 cups water
-
Salt to taste

Fresh coriander

Lemon juice (optional)
Method

Dry roast the rava on low heat till fragrant. Keep aside.

Heat oil/ghee and add mustard seeds.

Add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and chillies.

Add chopped onions and sauté till soft.

Pour water and bring to a boil. Add salt.

Slowly add roasted rava while mixing continuously.

Cover and cook till soft and fluffy.

Garnish with coriander and lemon juice.
